Celebrating Little Things

As much as I wish I had something to cheer about every day, I don't. Today, I have a very small accomplishment.

At the beginning of the year, I set a reading goal of 25 books this year. With a 1000 page book in my "to read" list, I knew it wouldn't be easy. There were times when I thought I wouldn't get through that book. I powered through, started another book, but I wasn't on pace to reach my goal.

I didn't let that stop me. Luckily, I was reading the incredible true story Unbroken. I finished that in a week! Now, I get this:
I have already read nearly half as many pages this year as I did last year (and I read 30 books last year)!

I have a stack of books on my nightstand just waiting for me to get to them. My little accomplishments! Now, if only someone would pay me to read...

Testing My Patience

It's been a while since I've written about my tomatoes. ICYMI: read this, this, this and this

I have no more new ones. They've grown a bit more. I'm beginning to worry something is wrong. They haven't turned the least bit red. Over the last few days, they've turned slightly lighter green. I think. It could be my eyes willing them to ripen.

Today, I added some fertilized soil hoping that may get the tomatoes one step closer to plucking. I have also seen some flowers so maybe I'll get a few more tomatoes put of the plant before it shuts down (I think they do that when it gets too hot).

Here's a picture I just took of some of my future fruits. Please cheer them on!

I've also planted a few other things. I'll bore you with pictures of those later. I'm pacing myself!

UPDATE: When I went out to water the plant, I spotted one tomato had turned a little red on its bottom (and I swear I didn't spank it!). I don't know how they do it, but I think my tomatoes are reading this blog!

Summer Movies

I don't know what it is about summer that brings out the "let's blow up everything and put it in 3D" in the movie makers, but it is really not that appealing to me. That's probably a good thing because it will keep me out of the theaters (they're really crowded during this time of year and I like having a theater to myself). There are a few exceptions. Here are the movies I want to see. Who's in?

Rock of Ages

The music in this is the big draw. It loses points for Tom Cruise and his nipples - which I've seen way too much of. I probably won't rush out to see this. It might be better for me to watch at home where I can sing along without being shushed.

Ted

Well, this is totally inappropriate and naughty. I think that's why I'm interested in this talking teddy bear movie. It seems like it's the kind of movie that will make you shoot soda out your nose. Unless the only funny parts are what I've seen in the trailer. Then, I'll just have to hope for some shirtless Mark Whalberg.

See? Sad. I can't even bring myself to take in a matinee of that Adam Sandler movie. I can't sit through those movies where he's still playing a character from his SNL days. If he'd grow up and not play that guy who thinks he's still a 20-something shouting and talking gibberish, I might give him another shot. Maybe.
