It's Halloween To The Rest of You

Yes, my dog in his silly costume is pretty much the only way I observe Halloween. It accomplishes two things:
  1. I show as much Halloween spirit as possible (minus the gorging of candy corn to the point of vomiting).
  2. I remind the dog who's REALLY in charge.
For those of you who are adults who still go all out for this event - with or without children in tow - these are for you. Boo!

Happy Hallowiener!

How To Make Your Dog Hate You

I love my dog. He loves me. Mostly.

I see his eyes when I get out an old Halloween costume. Well, I see them before he turns to leave the room. I see them again when I catch up to him and use my "This is going to be fun!" voice.

It's a look that begs me not to do it. He's embarrassed. He does not want to be a superhero, hot dog or spider (all costumes we've tried and he ruled out). He makes it impossible for me to get a picture of him.

So why did I find it hard not to linger in the costume aisle at Target? Is it because my dog's tolerance of a rainslicker when it's wet and a sweater when it's cold gives me hope that he'll see the fun in a costume? Is it because I want to remind him that I'm really the boss?

Probably not. I think it's because I have an unrealistic idea of what I want my dog to be: sweet and incredibly patient when I'm crazy. And look cute while posing in one of these costumes.

Happy Halloween!

I am not in costume, but I am looking for candy. Until I find some (and believe me, I WILL find some), I hope these cards put you in the spooky spirit! xoxo

Happy Hallowiener!

This year, my Mom picked up a little costume for Charley. You can see he's super happy to be wearing it.
I didn't want the cat to think he was immune from the shenanigans, so I made him wear it, too.
Before you report me for abusing my pets, let me just say that I force them to wear things because I think it's the only way you can remind the furry ones who's really in charge.

And one more thing... My friend, Michelle, has a very patient lab named Jackson. Notice how many poses she's able to get out of his Fall photo shoot.
I hope you and your little ghosts, goblins, slutty nurses, etc., have a happy Halloween. If you want to share your pictures, send 'em my way and I'll post 'em!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to make a sign for my front door warning trick-or-treaters not to ring the doorbell as we all have swine flu. We don't, I just don't feel like hearing the doorbell ring all night. Plus, those Snickers are MINE.

This Scares Me

This baby is adorable, but the picture is disturbing. If you want me to stop eating meat, start putting out more pictures like this. I'm creeped out by it.

If you want to see some other kid costumes, including some that are heavy on the cute and light on the creep factors, click here.

Cool Pumpkins!

Isn't that cool? It's so detailed - I don't have the talent or patience to do something like that! Because my pumpkin would be carved with the most basic of holes, I'd like you to go here to see some spectacular gourds in the Halloween spirit!

Oh, So Wrong

Now, I know I make Charley put on a costume every Halloween, but he is not THIS tolerant. He usually wiggles and shakes his way out of the costume in seconds. I feel sorry for these pups.

But they're SOOOOO cute!
