Testing My Patience

It's been a while since I've written about my tomatoes. ICYMI: read this, this, this and this

I have no more new ones. They've grown a bit more. I'm beginning to worry something is wrong. They haven't turned the least bit red. Over the last few days, they've turned slightly lighter green. I think. It could be my eyes willing them to ripen.

Today, I added some fertilized soil hoping that may get the tomatoes one step closer to plucking. I have also seen some flowers so maybe I'll get a few more tomatoes put of the plant before it shuts down (I think they do that when it gets too hot).

I've also planted a few other things. I'll bore you with pictures of those later. I'm pacing myself!

UPDATE: When I went out to water the plant, I spotted one tomato had turned a little red on its bottom (and I swear I didn't spank it!). I don't know how they do it, but I think my tomatoes are reading this blog!

That was my Count (you know, from "Sesame Street"). It is also my latest count of the tomatoes on my plant. YAY!

Everyone, keep my little buds in your fresh thoughts! I'm beginning to wonder if they'll ever grow big and juicy. It's a good thing I'm posting pictures. I'm afraid I sound a little like that old lady who wanted to fatten up Hansel and Gretel so she could eat them.

Nine Little Gardening Miracles!

Yes, I am aware I am not using "miracles" correctly. Settle down, grammar nazis. Now that I've gotten that out of the way...

I am SO excited this morning! I went out to check on my tomato plant and counted NINE little green tomatoes. Number Nine is so small it could be bullied by a cherry tomato. I love that one the most.

PS - don't tell the other tomatoes. I don't want them to stop growing or call on the bird to peck them to their unripened deaths.

Lucky Number Seven!

I am so excited! I went out to check on my tomato plant and was surprised to spy a few more tiny green tomatoes!

There are now SEVEN little buds! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that even more show up! I'm also hoping they're tasty!

Look What I See!

It's been nearly a month since I brought home a tomato plant (and a few other living things). You can read about it and see the picture proof here. I have been disappointed every day since then because my tomato plant flowered, grew but never had a single little tomato. Then, this weekend, I was watering it and spotted these:

Four little green tomatoes!

I was just about to give up on the plant as I had started Googling "why does my tomato plant hate me?" and "how do you command a tomato plant to bear fruit?" Then, to spy those itty bitty tomatoes! It was like the plant was begging me to give it a chance!

I'm going to resist the urge to pluck them when they're small - no matter how much I want to! I think the rule is you wait until they are mostly red, then bring them in to ripen. In my Googling, I did see that if you water the plants too much, the tomatoes won't have any taste. Now, I'm scared my one cup of water each day is too much. I did start watering at night Saturday because I read that's a better time to water them.

I'm just excited that I have these little green things! I hope they continue to grow and that they get a few friends soon!
