Let's Get Political, Political

I want to get political. Let me hear your campaigns talk.

Sorry, that's the best I can do with "Physical."

When I read this quote this morning, I flicked my monitor.

Cindy McCain said today that she expects her husband to clear the record at tonight’s debate and let America know where he truly stands.

McCain, who stopped to visit a half-dozen children at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt today, said the presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama has "waged the dirtiest campaign in American history,” and her husband Sen. John McCain will use tonight’s debate to correct the distortions.

The only thing John McCain did well last night was keep his temper in check. I did not like that both candidates did more of the same - oh, and manage to get their facts wrong. Remember change? Remember reform? They need to change and reform their tactics in next week's debate.

First of all, BOTH campaigns are (at best) waist-deep in mud. It's like both parties are just throwing a whole bunch of mud to see what sticks. I know plenty of people who believe whatever they hear - either from the candidate or from a political ad. Unlike yours truly, they don't check these things out to find out what's true. This really makes my blood boil!

Second, for a guy who calls himself a "Maverick," why is he letting his wife fight his battles for him? Shouldn't she just stick to the issues herself? Instead of throwing mud from her perfectly manicured nails, shouldn't Cindy McCain be careful not to get her 5-figure suit dirty? COME ON!

Take a look at some of the facts. This site lists the lies that keep making the rounds. There's no spin on this site, which looks at both sides. The Washington Post puts all things political to the Pinocchio test. If that's "too liberal" for you, the Washington Times does it, too.

I really hope the candidates (and their people) will stop this nonsense in these last weeks before Election Day. I want them to address the issues - like the economy. I am more afraid of my 401k shrinking than al Qaeda. Besides, if we don't have a solid economy, the terrorists win - they will surely take credit for crippling America. You know there's not a single politician out there who will take full blame for leading us to a recession.

AAAHH. I feel better.

Not The Best Way To Get Your Message Out

Protesters took to the streets just outside the RNC. Look at them. I'm supposed to take them seriously because...

I'm All Political

I can't help it. I am already in politics mode at work. Watching the Democratic National Convention this week (only in primetime - I can't watch the delegates do their thing - YAWN), I'm starting to get excited about the November election!

But there's something that's been bothering me...those Hillary supporters who feel wronged by Obama's nomination - like he stole it from her (racists - BTW, that's an inside joke as I call someone a racist every day). What I don't understand is why they would rather abandon the party that represents their views for one that is basically the complete opposite? So, I decided to do some fact checking myself this morning to see just how different Clinton and Obama really are.

This article says the two have shared identical votes on the issues. The only thing separating them? Time spent in the Senate.

I found this comparison of their stance on health care.

They're like-minded in their take on crime issues.

Difference are really hard to spot in this side-by-side comparison.

Here's another comparison with a timeline (it makes the age difference quite noticeable).

Not much of a difference on these issues.

Now, I ask you to compare Obama to John McCain. If you truly care about the issues (and with the privilege of being a voter, you should be), you should be able to put aside your bitter feelings about Clinton having to sit this one out. She'll be back, whether it's in four years or eight. Until then, do you want to sacrifice your future out of spite? Would it be worth it? You know, the thing about elections is that once it's done, it's pretty hard to un-do it. And if you elect someone you're not happy with, you have to ride it out. I'm not telling you who to vote for. I just ask that in these next two months you take time to become an informed voter and use your head instead of your heart.

To get you on the right path, look at what Obama says about the issues and look at what McCain says about the issues. Pay attention while you're there. Which one shares your ideas? Vote for HIM.

Triple Dog Dare

Watch this and try not to tear up.

How will the Republicans get through next week? Who will they drag out to motivate the masses and inspire people to stand by them for the next four years? The Obama-Biden ticket may have a nice, shiny package of hope, but, honestly, I can't imagine not having hope for the future in times like these.

Why You Should Vote For Obama

One of the "most stupidest" actors teases us by saying he'll leave the country if Obama is elected. Oh, we can only hope...

THAT'S change I can support!

BTW... That Baldwin character is the one who said "most stupidest." I'm quoting him.

Breaking News: Clinton To Concede

I'm a blogging fool this morning! This is the fifth post I've written today (not all for this blog)! So, if you're reading this blog for news about things other than me (why?), Hillary is reportedly planning to (finally) concede the nomination to Barack. Read it here.

If you've talked to me about the election over the last few months, you know I've chosen Obama (sorry, Grandparents). I refused to be bullied into supporting Clinton. Yes, I know how special it would be to have a woman as our President. I know that if you count her time as First Lady, she has more legislative experience - though for someone who stormed into the White House on a mission to reform the nation she didn't get much accomplished. But I just couldn't bring myself to vote for HER.

The very first time I saw Barack Obama speak at the Democratic convention, I said to myself, "I don't know who he is, but THAT guy is going to be President!" If you missed that speech, go here. Call him young and inexperienced, but didn't they say that about JFK? This guy is smart. He has not surrounded himself with a bunch of "yes" people (um, President Bush, I'm talking to YOU). If the only bad thing people in the Senate can say is that he's (again) young and inexperienced, what does that tell you? He can cross party lines and get things done - something I don't think the other candidates can do.

Clinton has had the wrong people around her (Geraldine Ferraro, husband Bill among them). She's been using the same kind of fuzzy speak Bill used when most of Washington was trying to impeach him ("it depends what the definition of 'is' is). She should be proud that she was in the race this long. Though I know a lot of Republicans voted for her because they didn't think she could beat McCain (same goes for Obama, but he must have been the real threat as Hillary won more states in the latter part of the race).

Will she become the VP candidate? I don't know. I can't see her wanting to play second fiddle to a guy she's been bashing for a year now. We'll see. It will be nice to have this thing down to two candidates in these five months before the election. Man, is this going to be one looooong summer!
