Suck It Oil Companies, Pt. 7

It's been a while since I started this little feature. I started making note of gas prices when they were $3.65. The highest price I paid was $3.93. As I watched the price leap with every drop of fuel, it made me angry. It also made me glad I was not cruising around in a gas guzzler!

So imagine my joy when I filled up the other day.
Yep. $1.63! I think that's better than my title! It's like giving the middle finger to those companies that have had record profits (and no doubt planned on giving their big bosses huge bonuses before the feds started saying, "Not so fast...")! And it's gets better...

One oil exec is predicting gas around $1 a gallon next year! YAY!

I'm not discontinuing this little feature because, as my dad says, "My Mama did raise a fool, but I have a brother." That's some country thing. Anywho, I understand that just like the prices climbed this year, they'll climb again. I just hope it's not for a while. And I REALLY hope none of those oil companies show up on The Hill with their hands out. They've been raking in the money for years. If they haven't put it to good use, I say the heck with them! And bring on the fuel-friendly vehicles!

Suck It Oil Companies, Pt. 6

I use that title with a little less anger than I've used in the last few weeks. Why? Because I filled up yesterday for $3.86 a gallon.

It is wrong that price actually made me happy.

Well, happy is probably not the word for it. Relieved? That might be the word.

I have gotten in the habit of filling up whenever my car reaches 1/4 of a tank. This time, it cost me just under $40 to top off the tank. I don't want to hear from those of you with large trucks or SUVs. I know that wouldn't fill half your tank. WAAAAH! Did it really sound like a good idea to buy a vehicle that gets 20mpg on the highway?

The folks at AAA predict prices will fall another quarter by Labor Day. Yay. That's a real steal (she says with sarcasm). It could always be worse. Alaskans are paying the highest prices in the country: $4.68 - and it's as much as $8.50 in remote areas! Yikes!

And if you haven't looked back at what you were paying a year ago, I've done the research. Prices now are 65% higher than they were last July.

Jerks.

Suck It Oil Companies, Pt. 5

It's been a while since I've written one of these. It doesn't mean that I'm accepting gas prices these days. It just means I've been paying the same price for about a month - give or take a penny. That still makes me mad. There is no reason why gas prices should be that high! It's an outrage! It's making me use exclamation points excessively!

I know, I know, it could be worse. I still don't wait for my car to get below 1/4 of a tank. I fill up before then out of fear the next time I need gas, the prices will be more than $4! This is why I use mapquest to find cheap gas prices on my route.

I'm still carpooling a few days of the week. Some weeks more than others as my carpool buddy has to fill in for other co-workers when they call in sick or take vacation. The nerve! Clearly, they hate the environment.

Suck It Oil Companies, Pt. 4

This is getting beyond ridiculous! I no longer wait until I'm close to empty. Since prices average $3.89 in my part of town, I'm filling up when I get just below 1/3 of a tank left. There was actually a Shell station near me that was at $3.95 over the weekend (which had me screaming more than "suck it!"), but they came to their senses and brought it down to $3.89.

You know, a year ago, I never would have thought THAT was sensible. It's not really. It's more like less crazy than $4. When it hits that mark who knows what I'll do. I might have to change the title of this serious to something a little harsher. I'll keep plugging away as gas prices climb (by my account more than 30 cents over the last 6 months).

And because I'm nice (with no hidden agenda), I'm passing on this website: http://gasprices.mapquest.com/

Book mark it, use it on your cell phone while you're out. Unlike some of those other gas-tracking sites, this one gets the information from the fueling stations and if it's not updated in 48 hours, it's yanked. Just looking at it now, I think I should move to Gwinner, North Dakota. Gas there is only $3.58!

Suck It Oil Companies - Part 3

Ouch.
I've been meaning to post this, but it's taken me a couple of days to get to it. This was what I paid for gas Tuesday. I was irritated about it, because shortly after I paid that, I saw a couple of other stations at $3.81 (oooh - saving two pennies a gallon - what a STEAL). Then, today, as I was carpooling to work, I saw one station at $3.89 - that's ELEVEN CENTS away from $4! That's regular unleaded - not the premium gas.

John McCain, Barack Obama - if you stumble across this little blog, PLEASE do something about this ASAP! Do either of you want to start your presidency with Americans choosing whether to put gas in their vehicles or feed their families? Wait. Maybe they really DO. Then, they'll have no place to go but up come January!

Suck It, Oil Companies, Pt. 2

That's what it cost me for a single gallon of gas this afternoon. It cost me $40 to top off the tank! I know, those of you with bigger vehicles and therefore bigger gas tanks are probably telling me to "Suck it!"

But come on! That makes me angry!

I want someone from the big oil companies to contact me directly and explain why consumers have to accept that. And that person better make it GOOD.

I'm torn between keeping my old car, which still gets pretty good mileage and is paid off, and buying a hybrid. Either way, I want to make sure that I'm making every gallon go as far as possible. I'm afraid of what the prices may jump up to the next time I fill up!

Suck It, Oil Companies

Now, when I write this, I'll exclude Uncle Larry's company. The others can SUCK IT.

It's sad times when I no longer wait until the little light comes on telling me I need to gas up. Now, when I get near 1/4 tank left, I fill 'er up. Why? Because I'm afraid prices will jump even more by the time I get close to empty, so I take advantage of the price at the moment. Today, was the highest I've paid yet.

That's $3.65 for one gallon of regular unleaded at the friendly Shell station near my house. So I thought it was quite a steal, considering I paid about $32 for 8.5 gallons. I would have stopped at Costco, but I didn't have time to sit in line. That should be criminal. I know the prices are higher in other places, but I live in South Texas - they FREAKING MAKE GAS DOWN HERE! Shouldn't we get some backyard discount?

I read this, and I felt a little better. Apparently, I'm not the only one irritated with oil companies these days. I have learned something from this. I know that I will be a more cautious consumer - looking at pump prices instead of just stopping at the closest place to me. I will not buy a new car that gets less than 30mpg - no matter how cute it is. I will scream "suck it!" every time I pass a gas station until they lower prices below $3.

Until then, I'll keep updating you with every fill up what I'm paying. What's gas running in your neighborhood? Drop it in the comments!
